Big Ben and Houses of Parliament


The Big Ben is the name given to the massive Bell, it weights more than 13 tons. 
And is located beside the House of Parliament.
Curiosities: the Big Ben has rarely stopped, even after a bomb, in the Second World War, 
destroyed the Commons Chamber.    
Each minute hand is 4,2 meters long and weigh about 100kg. 


The Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) are examples that represents the grandeur of  Victorian Architecture style.


London Eye is the tallest Ferris Wheel and is the most popular (paid) tourist attraction in London.


The Elizabeth Tower (or know as Big Ben) stands at over 96 meters.


In 2017, the refurbishment work started and the work is due to last 3 years. During this time the mechanism will be stopped for several months. (no chiming or striking.)


The building is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The Westminster Abbey were all the kings and queens have been celebrating the coronation ceremony. When inside the visitors can see the sculptures and tombs of 17 monarchs. So when you think in royal weddings and coronations the place full of historic tradition is here.





Debates, discussions, questions, all helps Parliament to fulfill it's goals. Checking the governments actions and plans. House of commons and the house of Lords. Generally, the decisions made by one house have to be approved by the other house.
